Kodiak Kraft® and Polar Kraft® are part of a category of packaging papers known as high performance. This term refers to a category of paper in which the strength has been increased to such an extent that the amount of paper in a multiwall bag can be reduced by a significant amount; in most cases by 30% compared to conventional kraft papers.

Less paper in the bag translates to a more environmentally-friendly, high value package. The savings in paper can be achieved either by reducing basis weight of each ply or more commonly reducing the number of plies in a bag from 3 or 4 to 2. This evolution has been going on in the multiwall bag business since paper bags were first manufactured. Many of the first bags had 4, 5 or 6 plies and now the standard is 3 ply in North America and 2 ply in many other areas of the world.
