Unbleached Softwood Pulp

Canfor Pulp Limited Partnership produces unbleached pulps at its Prince George mill only. The Environmental and Quality Management Systems are registered to the ISO 9001(quality) and ISO 14001 (environmental) standards.

The mill produces 2 varieties of unbleached pulp. One is specially designed for use in applications requiring high tensile unbleached fibre, this is our UBK pulp. The other grade is our UBE pulp which is produced especially for use in electrical applications where extreme levels of purity and low conductivity are required.

Our fibre supply is a blend of white spruce (Picea glauca), lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta) and alpine fir (Abies lasiocarpa). The majority of this supply is the residual material from local sawmills. Due to the climatic conditions in the region - long cold winters and relatively short dry summers - these species naturally develop long, slender and thin-walled fibres. These fibre properties result in pulp that not only has excellent tensile strength properties, but also offers superior wet web reinforcement and sheet dimensional stability.

The mill has highly sophisticated distributed control systems, a continuous digester, and modern bleaching and screening systems. The pulp produced is clean, free of dirt and has exceptionally low shive levels.

Key Pulp Properties Typical End Uses
